Copies of items ascribed to or concerning Bull, as follows: a letter, Hermosillo, Mexico, September 3, 1843, from William Keith to Abel Stearns, introducing Bull as a visitor to Los Angeles en route to Oregon Territory; a letter, Mexico City, October 9, 1845, from John Black of the U.S. Consular Service to José Antonio Navarro, introducing Bull and requesting assistance for him during a visit to Texas; a report dated November, 1844, ascribed to Bull, telling of a recent journey through Baja California and describing the countryside, the people, and the missions. 30 p.
Folder 2. Material relating to the contents of Folder 1, as follows: copy of a letter [San Francisco], October 16, 1927, from Frances H. Bull, daughter of James Hunter Bull, to Major Leon French, Secretary-Registrar of the California Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, concerning disposition of her father's papers; a signed letter [San Francisco], December 16, 1927, from French to Professor Fletcher Harper Swift of the University of California at Berkeley, requesting transmittal to Professor Herbert E. Bolton of a copy of a letter from Commodore Bull; an undated memorandum from F.B. (Frances Bull?), explaining why the report on the Baja California material should be ascribed to Bull rather than to Stearns; and a signed letter of transmittal, Berkeley, October 10, 1929, from Swift to Bolton.
